We intend to keep a diary of work carried out and also a list of what has  been planted. By giving the dates sown and the varieties chosen, then watching their progress it will enable those interested to judge whether or not a particular vegetable is worth trying. Hopefully the selection within the ten plots will be quite extensive.

Swillington Allotments

The Allotment site just off Church Crescent had stood empty and neglected for a number of years with the exception of one brave soul Jim Carrie who despite the dumping and other small problems associated with vacant land has managed a small but productive plot for almost 10 years.

When the Parish Council were discussing what use this land could be put to one of the numerous options was to restore the site as Allotments to be used by the local community. This idea was adopted and the Parish Council invested to have the site levelled and a strong metal fence erected, this has allowed the creation of ten small but viable plots

After Advertising in the Swillington link and other areas locally all but one plot has been taken, a number of plot holders have now started the task of digging and clearing their individual sites of weeds and the usual debris that accumulates over the years.

The idea behind this Web Site is to show the progress being made using photo's, text, etc and allow ideas to be shared.

Because this site relates to Swillington Village we are also hoping  to include pages for both Swillington in Bloom and the Swillington Art Group, both these groups play an active part in promoting Swillington Village but get very little recognition. As soon as suitable material is provided  we will attempt to provide a page for each. This in turn may encourage more supporters for both, and at the same time allow visitors to view some of the local activities.
